What is Martial Arts Educare?

When we are required to learn a new concept, it is often easier to break it down into smaller segments and then rebuild it back up. In doing so we gain a better understanding of the initial concept and we leave little or no chance for ambiguities. This will be our approach to understand exactly what Martial Arts Educare®is.

Definition of Martial Art

The word Martial derives its origin from the Latin word martialis, meaning from Mars and it is the name given to the Roman God of War. The term also can be applied to the military i.e. a warrior or soldier suggesting war or some type of military life.

The word ‘Art’ means the form or practice.

So in a crude sense the term ‘Martial Art’ can mean the art or practice of warfare.

Through the practice and study of Martial Arts an individual will learn various blocks, kicks, punches, strikes, throws, grappling techniques etc. which COULD be used to protect oneself, family, group, culture, community or nation. This practice can take the form of unarmed combat or armed combat hence its military connection.

In our programme students will be studying a Marital Art known as Choi Kwang Do  and yes we will be developing ‘warrior like’ individuals – but not in the conventional sense. Our approach will be to develop a more contemporary type of warrior. Our focus will be to develop individuals who have good moral values. Individuals who possess warrior like attributes such as courage, self confidence, assertiveness, concentration, discipline, determination and focus. Individuals who stand for truth, peace, right conduct and non-violence i.e. altruistic individuals whose acts will not only benefit themselves but others whom they come into contact with.

Definition of Educare

When one goes to school it is said that the overall objective is to ensure that one receives a good education. The word education is derived from the Latin word ‘Educare’ . In Latin:

  • The letter ‘E’ means ‘Out’ and ‘Ducare’ means ‘To Bring’

Therefore Educare means:

  • ‘TO BRING OUT’

‘TO BRING OUT’ WHAT?

The INNATE HIDDEN POTENTIAL (the ‘warrior like’ attributes) in EACH and EVERY individual. These ‘warrior like’ attributes are those associated to the highest ideals and moral values of human living. Attributes such as courage, self confidence, assertiveness, concentration, discipline, humility, honesty, gentleness all culminate in making the individual ‘Fit for Life.’

Martial Arts Edcuare® means:

“Using Martial Arts to bring out and put into practice the innate hidden potential within each and every individual.”

This hidden potential is within EVERYONE and it is not something that one ‘gets’; for it is impossible to ‘get’ confident or to ‘get’ assertive, you can only ‘BE’ confident or ‘BE’ assertive. In actual fact, these attributes are within you right now, whether you believe it or not – it is true. Our programme is to help you REAL-ISE (make real and bring to your awareness) these precious treasures that you already possess.

Some people hold the belief that the proper application of knowledge is wisdom and that wisdom resides within oneself.

Hence the saying:

“All knowledge resides within”

but

“If you don’t go within you go without.”

Running any kind of martial arts scoohl is a very risky and difficult way to make a living. I have known many that tried in the last 42 years. Only a very few are still in business. Of those that are only a few of them are making money at it. The others continue teaching because they love it, not because they make money at it. A good example is an Isshinryu master here in my area. He has been a serious student of Isshinryu since 1963. Now at 65 years old he spends more on rent than the students pay him each month. He continues to teach because he can afford to and he wants to teach. I too have owned Dojo that made money and some that did not. All in all It was not worth it for the money. I did it because I wanted to.

It seems as if you want ot make a diffence to peoples lives and society and this is admirable I hope that you are successful in your endeavours. This is definitely a noble and worthwhile cause.

Sorry if this is not the answer you wanted, but this is the honest truth.

  • Andy says:

Fantastic article. Very different approach and philosophy to the study of martial arts.

I think this would be good for children and adults of all ages to try as i beleive that you could really change society and the make a postive contribution to many lifes. Great work :-)

your question sonuds like a joke. boxing and mma are both included within martial arts. mma is obvious just look at its name. mixed martial arts, duh. Also boxing and mma are completely different and don’t compare to each other. Think of comparing fishing to shooting deer. both are hunting but are completely different. Before you join anywhere you need to understand what you are talking about. do some reading online about boxing, kick-boxing, grappling, and wrestling. Then pick one. If you want to learn mma then great go for it. mma is the most complete style of empty hand fighting there is. If you want to learn to box then go for it. Boxing is the martial art of punching. I’m sure whatever you decide you will be able to find. Do some searching on google also try boxinghelp.com which has a directory of fighting gyms

  • Barry says:

What a change from the usual stuff that I read. Well thought out and presented. Will definitely check back for more information. P.S I really liked your youtube research video on http://www.wembleyckd.co.uk more children should be doing this martial art.
